SoFi Stadium Field Currently Too Narrow To Host 2026 World Cup Final

Mar 17, 2023 9:09 AM

SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles was scheduled to host the 2026 World Cup Final, but its field is currently too narrow to comply with FIFA's standards.

In order to host matches, seats would have to be removed to widen the field by 60 feet. This would bring the stadium capacity below 70,000, which is on the smaller end for the World Cup.

The 1994 World Cup final was also played in Los Angeles at the Rose Bowl.

If the final is moved, it could be played in New Jersey at MetLife Stadium.

Gianni Infantino Reelected As FIFA President Through 2027

Mar 16, 2023 10:38 AM

Gianni Infantino was reelected as FIFA president during the 73rd Congress in Kigali, Rwanda.

Infantino ran unopposed.

Infantino confirmed FIFA's income hit record levels in the last cycle from 2019-22, but promised to substantially raise this again on the back of expanded men's and women's World Cup tournaments and the introduction of a 32-team Club World Cup.

"Revenues rose to a record $7.5 billion [in 2022] in a period that was hit by COVID-19. When I arrived, FIFA reserves stood at around $1bn, today they are at almost $4bn," Infantino said.
